As part of the Councils independent audit review o

As part of the Councils independent audit review of height safety systems GDP performed a number of height safety rectifications on public buildings throughout the shire in the 2023-2024 financial year.

Camperdown Stadium was one site where height safety access needed a major overhaul to allow improved safe access and movement on the roof. Entry to the roof was previously via a ladder bracket and portable ladder, however, on a 30° pitch domed roof this was difficult to achieve safely and therefore a Kombi platform with a self-closing gate was undertaken to eliminate the difficulty factor – see image of works undertaken to eliminate this hazard.

In addition to the Kombi platform additional anchors were added to the building to negate issues with pendulum, as well as a number of brittle surface signs added to alert of the potential dangers of skylights on the roof.

GDP Believe that all sites with a BMU, should have a Site-Specific Emergency Rescue Manual to refer to detailing a safe tried and tested process to retrieve the cradle and operators if presented with an emergency.
Consideration must be given to all drop positions which could have numerous obstacles present such as car parks, awnings, balconies, adjacent buildings, public access areas, etc.

GDP have created detailed manuals for many of our clients which also outlines what equipment is required, who should be notified, what keys are needed, how to gain access to certain areas and any other related considerations at different stages throughout the process which can work towards a smooth, safe and swift rescue.

A large Facility Management Company had a number o

A large Facility Management Company had a number of safety issues to address on their roof safety system at a large fulfilment centre warehouse.

Our client tasked GDP with rectifying the following items to ensure safe access was available for staff and contractors needing to access the roof. Works included;

- Carpentry works to increase the undersized hatch opening to allow a hatch that would meet current Australian Standards. An existing light was re-located
- New fold down ladder system. Previously a portable ladder with an unsafe gradient was used to access a severely undersized hatch opening
- Additional walkway and landings for safe egress
- New sliding Hatch to be installed allow greater usability and safety.
- Additional Guardrail to also be included surrounding the roof access hatch.

Melbourne’s Collins Arch presents many challenges for access including negative facades, cascading levels and waved design features.
